gcolor

Description:

This is a complete Icon theme largely based on GNOME, with some icons/ideas from Tango, Elementary, and Discovery. All credit should go to their respective authors.
The goal of this project is to create a simple, yet complete icon theme that feels at home in the GNOME desktop environment, regardless of color-scheme.
In other words, I want to provide an easy way for everyone to make their desktops match their moods, wallpapers, visual styles, or laptop’s colors at any given time, keeping icon consistency intact.

The themes are made from the same files and recolored by hand, so you will always get the same quality with any chosen color. They were designed to match my Clearlooks/Nodoka/Murrine-Colors GTK Themes and their additional artwork, so if you combine them you will have the best experience. There are 4 color variations: Brave (Blue), Wise (Green) Human (Orange) and Wine (Red).

Important, must read or clowns will eat you:

  • This is my first attempt at an icon theme. It does not kill kittens, but do expect problems.
  • Most icons are only available as scalable .svg files. I have yet to optimize a lot of icons for small sizes, so some/a lot of small icons MAY NOT LOOK GOOD in low-res displays! If you do not care about this, then this version is just right for you.
  • To install, extract the .zip file and drag n’ drop the desired icon theme into GNOME’s appearance preferences. You can also install the ‘pixmaps’ folder if you follow the instructions in the readme.
  • I have tested this under Ubuntu 8.04 and Fedora 9. Please report any issues!
—- These icons are and will always be 100% free. However, I will need your support. If you like these icons, please take a minute to leave suggestions, report bugs, recommend icons to be included in the theme, etc.
The concept behind this icon set is that you can make it your own, so don’t hesitate to modify/add to the project!
—- If you want to suggest or make an icon for inclusion to the theme, here’s some pointers:
-Icon must fit in with GNOME iconset, or follow the tango guidelines.
-Icon must be available as .svg
-Icon must be free or made by yourself.

Changelog:

06/06
I have made a script that automatically downloads the latest version of these icons, all my gtk themes/wallpapers/emerald themes/metacities and applies them instantly. It’s a real time saver, you can get it here:
